Bucket Your Costs
I'm Srikanth M. I built the calculators I wished existed when I started running trucking numbers.
Srikanth M., independent developer and creator of CostPerMile
Most free trucking calculators lie by omission. They skip deadhead miles, bury the fuel surcharge in the linehaul, or let dispatch take a cut of money that was never theirs. Each shortcut looks small. Together they're the difference between a profitable week and running 2,500 miles to go broke.
How these tools are built
Every calculator on this site runs the full math: costs spread over all miles including empties, fuel surcharge treated as a fuel offset (never bonus revenue), and dispatch fees applied to linehaul only. Your calculator inputs stay in your browser. We use Google Analytics 4 for page-usage analytics, but do not use advertising or retargeting pixels on the calculators.
Benchmarks and changing facts are sourced, not invented: operating costs from the ATRI Operational Costs of Trucking update, fuel-surcharge method from OOIDA, authority fees from FMCSA and the IRS, diesel prices from the EIA weekly average, and IFTA rates from IFTA, Inc. Read the complete sources and methodology page. If a number looks wrong, the source is named so you can check the work.
Editorial standards
Changing facts receive a review date and a source link. Calculator formulas are kept visible, user-editable inputs are not presented as official quotes, and corrections are checked against the primary source before the page is updated. Public FMCSA results are a convenience layer over government data; SAFER remains the official record.
What this site is (and isn't)
CostPerMile is a set of planning tools for US owner-operators and small fleets. It is not a CPA, not a lawyer, and not insurance advice — verify anything load-bearing with your own professionals. What it is: the math, done honestly, free forever.
Spotted a wrong number or want a calculator I haven't built? Tell me — corrections from working drivers go to the top of the list.
